What a super event with some wonderful and ‘attractive’ people. I didn’t get a chance to talk to everyone properly and have been resting and catching up all week. Hence these few words now that I wanted to share with you.
This is mainly for the friends I crewed with. I’ve done a couple of other blog posts about Tony Robbins UPW Unleash the Power Within, which you can find here: http://bobby-gill.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/UPW
It was pretty disorganised in the run up to the event but the experienced crew knew that we would pull it off, as always has been the case. The best organised UPW event I’ve been to was in Italy, led by Hi-Performance. The organisers made time to communicate, help and thank the crew for the efforts they put in – and the fact it was in Italy was also a bonus, as you could go on holiday too!
The London 2012 Event was great. It had been 4 years since Tony Robbins had been in London, when the atmosphere was electric. The event wasn’t as busy this time, as it was in 2008 but those that know the value of UPW were there. There were many there for the first time, lots who had come back and most had come on recommendations from friends and family.
There were a lot of new Crew at the event and many had travelled from half way around the world, including Europe, America, Fiji, Israel, Malaysia, Australia. They had overcome challenges to arrange travel, flights and accommodation – and they supported each other in making it happen. The main reason we were all there is that we believe in what Anthony Robbins teaches and shares. The crew know it can change everyone’s life for the better, as long as they are prepared to show up and make a decision to do things differently. There is no excuse for anyone from the UK not to make it to UPW when such crew members set such a high standard for themselves.
Crew manager Loren Slocum and Toni Brodelle made sure there was direction and that we were supported in making sure the magic behind the scenes happened to make the event flow smoothly. They are both great female role models for how women leaders should be. Everything ran like clockwork, even if timings changed, and I’m sure the participants had a fantastic experience.
A few of my highlights were:
Being on call and of service to organisers, crew and attendees.
Helping attendees register and find their way around on the first day.
Welcoming people into the room with a peak state.
The laughs, the fun and the connection!
The Young persons Youth Leadership Team – you really have to run through their tunnel of love next time you see them!
Gary King sharing his simple happiness formula and Self-Worth.
Being trusted to do a dinner run for Joseph McClendon III
Meeting the brilliant crew members and new friends from this year – and meeting those again from Rimini 2011 and London 2008.
High fiving Tony Robbins and being able to thank Sage as well.
Getting to know fellow crew members and inducting them into Bobby’s A-Team 😉
Sharing and spreading the LOVE in the crew room and main hall.
Sharing fun and personal moments with people at this event to find out what is alive in them.
Drinks on the last night with crew, leadership and random friends!
The reminder to do the 10 day challenge along with everyone else (the ‘naughty’ food is starting to talk to me)
As crew we are fortunate enough to have talks and session with speakers, other than Tony who is in the main room. The best being Gary King who share the formula for happiness. Which is simply Forgiveness (for self and others), Honesty, Truth (with self and others) and having self worth. If you ever get the chance to see or meet Gary King, I highly recommend it as he resonates so much with the way I choose to live. Find out how ‘attractive’ you are! Here is his website: http://www.thepoweroftruth.com/
There were some wonderful shares in the crew room and I felt blessed to have been part of those magical moments. When two people that can’t travel to each others countries, can meet and hug each other at UPW is amazing and will bring a heartfelt sigh and tear to anyone’s eye. When one person is so blessed that he is recognised for making a difference to others, is nominated as Crew Member of the event and also wins a Leadership scholarship. It was so difficult to nominate one person for crew member, so I’m sending them personal messages this weekend instead.
At the end we all got to go on stage with Tony and I got to give the big man another high five!
After doing a full weekend and being on stage for hours, giving his all to the audience, Tony still makes time to come and talk to the crew afterwards and thank them – even if it is after 1am in the morning. He appreciates how dedicated they are in helping make the event happen, to contribution and caring for the attendees. He walks his talk and is the genuine and authentic person that you see on stage. Along with the amazing support of Sage, they both touch lives wherever they go.
Is it a coincidence that the summer sun came out as the event drew to a close? ☼
(Maybe we can thank Dr. John Demartini as well for visiting London the same weekend!)
❤ ☆ I just wanted to let you know what I love, honour and respect about you all, is that you are amazing people that move the world! After being to UPW, everyone feels energised and more alive. It is then up to us to continue the Momentum. Stay connected with those that you met, follow up on what you said you would do – and Step Up! Live your life on your terms. You’re all part of my crew: (The-future-begins) and I hope to see you again soon.
If you’re in say ‘Aye’ and I’ll see you on the other side!

Weekend of 21st to 25th February 2008 – Tony Robbins UPW, Unleash The Power Within. A crew mate’s view!
Sore hands, aching feet, lost voices and a certain musical track ringing in your ears? All signs you had an brilliant time. Woh, Woh, Woh, W-Woh!!
Why did I crew? I went last year and thought the crew weren’t as lively as they could have been towards the end of the event, it was a party that I wanted to go on. I decided to be the change I wanted to see, by crewing myself! After all, how could I criticise last year’s crew if I couldn’t deliver myself!? 😉
Thursday: When I arrived to register as crew, we were issued with pink t-shirts. I heard a couple of guys curse, I suggested they better get used to it, as this was going to have to be my favourite colour for the weekend. I was a little nervous and had no idea what I was doing there. I had come to meet a couple of friends crewing and a few participating as well so wanted a steady weekend and to be left in my own little world. A couple of days later when I spoke to others, they had been nervous too, even throwing up – we are all more alike than we think sometimes.
Everyone was put into various teams and I chose the ‘head sets’ team for the international clients who required translation in French, Spanish, Italian, German or Russian – here we issued them with headsets for the event. Even some of the crew had come from the other ends of the earth.
The crew was about 250 people to help with 8000 participants and apparently we were the smallest crew ever. Steve L. did a fantastic job of keeping us all energised and raring to go. He was a great presenter and really kept us all motivated. We also practised for what the team had to do on the firewalk. The head set team didn’t have to take part.
I decided to be ‘freelance’ or a floater (as others called it) and moved round the other teams and groups as needed. We went to bed ready for the main event tomorrow and an early morning to prepare for the partcipants arriving.
Friday: There were people from about 55 countries at the event. At the head set desk – not being able to really speak to any of these languages, we had to rely on the clients basic english and our body language, along with the internationally understood smile. Participants were unhappy when we didn’t have enough head sets for everyone at the beginning, especially as they had paid money. Not a good start to the event! Luckily more turned up by 4-5pm. We later had a mishap that evening when a whole load of headsets were returned and not booked back in but that is another story.
Quite a busy day behind the scenes that I didn’t get to see Tony in the main hall.
When I realised the entire crew had gone for an early firewalk, I threw my shoes off and legged it across the car park so I didn’t miss out. Isn’t that why everyone came to UPW or were too scared to attend!? After this the crew were all buzzing and ready for the main event.
On the Firewalk there are different positions to be covered by the crew members to help the trainers – I decided to be a spare cop on David T.’s firelane, as it was his birthday and Steve L. had made it look so entertaining in training.
It was so exciting helping guide the people down to the fire – and the way you end up getting in rapport with nearly everyone you get eye contact with. Standing alongside big guys to shoulder bounce them back into line, cheer like those that were excited, dance with those that wanted to shake their hips and gently nudge along those that were still a little nervous by getting in 2 people behind them in the queue. I ‘was’ about 300 people in the space of less than an hour.
Saturday: MedWestern the organisers packed in their Customer Service desk at about 3pm on Saturday. Customers don’t need to be looked after beyond that time I assume. So we dragged the desk over to our head sets desk. When I told the other volunteers that we were customer service as well, they looked stunned. I had to explain that nothing had changed as the volunteer shirts meant we were customer service and now we had a desk as well. Here we would deal with any issues and anything we couldn’t handle we’d find a med-western manager to take care of it (or failing that my account manager had volunteered)
Just like the donkey that fell down the well. You give us crap to deal with and we’ll just shake it off, step up and ask for more 🙂
As a treat a few of us did some unofficial spicy food, which was fire eating in an undisclosed location. Wow – that was fun! Although the flammable burps afterwards left something to be desired!
Sunday: I woke up in the hotel about 6am again and could here the Italians chanting ‘Woh, Woh, Woh, W-Woh’. When I turned to Brad P. in the other bed to ask him if he could hear it, he replied ‘Hear what?’ Yes, I now had more voices in my head competing for my time!
Along with Customer Service we now had a ‘lost and found’ desk – with books, cameras, phones, clothes, glasses and I wondered how people could lose such things and not take care of them. Oh the irony… I’d lost my switch card in one hotel and forgotten my fleece and T-shirt in another!
I’d met loads of friends there that I didn’t expect to see as well as those that I did. Someone even asked for me at Customer Services, though didn’t leave any details.
Monday: This was a quiet day with not much to do that then exploded into a huge ball of energy at the end of the event, before fizzling away after the participants and most of the crew had left. I had managed to get a place to dance on stage when Tony would come on. Then another crew member came back late, I stepped out for him as I could see on his face that he really wanted to do it.
A girl from the Youth Leadership Team wanted a pink t-shirt and I’d already promised mine to someone else. So I went round asking some of the other male crew members. I It’s funny how all of a sudden they’d come attached to the pink they disliked at the beginning of the weekend. I finally got around and borrowed one. It meant so much more than a t-shirt to this girl and the smile, hug and asking for a picture with me spoke volumes in the grand scheme of things!
It was amazing to see people returning their headsets as changed people. They were actually smiling despite the mishaps of no headsets on Friday. I made most of them give me a hug or at least a high five before they left to make their way home.
In hindsight, I now know why the crew were flagging towards the end of UPW last year. We had been getting up before 6am and getting to bed anytime after 10pm, depending on whether we wanted to go and socialise in the hotels or not. The feeling of wanting to be left alone I had a few days earlier had been replaced with a need to just chill out with everyone there. We were having a blast.
Had I left my own little world or started to drag everyone else into mine!?
Andrea S. asked me what I’d thought of the experience. I told her it was the best crew ever! She asked how many I’d done before and smiled that it was my first. I just felt that we were the best and truly knew it in my heart! It is going to be a tough crew to beat in future.
I could tell you everything, including the lows of the politics and the crew not having a proper farewell or the real highs, though those special moments will belong to those that were there 🙂
You get what you focus on so I will take away just the great moments and learn from the rest.
I felt priveliged as it really may be the last one with no further dates released for the UK / Europe.
I came to contribute and meet some old friends and took away so much more. Including the wonderful friends that I met over the weekend, I miss them so much already that I had to write this. This was the family and peer group that we all wish for – and I can’t wait for the next time. I made so many new friends that now mean so much to me – you know who you are…
People were asking me where I’d got all my energy from, as I was busy jumping up and down, clapping and giving the crew a boost as well as the participants. I stopped to wonder why afterwards. I wasn’t fitter than anyone else there – or healthier!?
Then I realised! I was getting some of it from the crowd and participants. The rest I got from the great guys and lovely gals crewing that I had been hanging around with all weekend; we just passed that energy around amongst ourselves and magnified it. And remembering the reason that I crewed in the first place, the promise I had made myself to help make it the best crew ever! And it WAS!
Richard Branson is an amazing, shining soul – a true light worker.
To be at the National Achievers Congress 2011 in London Excel was a great experience and a privilege. Not having been to many events/seminars in the last few months, this was one that I did not want to miss. With such World Class speakers and entrepreneurs in one place, it was the MUST attend event of the year! With such ‘Gurus’ in Peak Performance to Billionaires and the Best of the Best entrepreneurs and wealth creators.
I was surprised to see that many of the London regulars (internet marketers, personal development, property investor crowd and seminar junkies) were not there. Were they busy that weekend? Did they not want to pay and see value in the tickets? Were they jaded by multi-speaker events? I think it is likely to have been a combination of all of the above.
All I can say is that they missed out. To be able to see/hear Tony Robbins, Alan Sugar, Kerwin Rae and Richard Branson live and in person is priceless, especially all on the same weekend. IF you weren’t there, then I know you’ll be regretting it now too, so I’ve got a gift for you. Would you like to see Richard Branson Live in 2012? Then read on….
Well done to the SR Team, Richard Tan and Veronica on pulling off another fantastic event. With around 8000 people in attendance, it requires some serious organisation and management. Of course Dinesh and Mala Shah are always a good choice for Crew Managers and know how to work with a team. This has set the bar for future events for themselves and other promoters in future. Where do you go from here? 10,000+ people next year but which speakers…
@SRseminars did have a Twitter contest with the hashtag #NAC2011 but failed to use or utilise the opportunity fully themselves. They should give me a call next year to make sure they do!!
The pros of the tweeting was that it got the message out and people got to share their thoughts on the event with others attending and friends that weren’t present. The cons (for the organisers) was the comments about ‘sales pitches’, ‘no women speakers’, ‘hard sell’ etc… but it is good to get some balance so it worked for twitter followers to see these comments too. You can’t censor the internet (yet!)
There was good use of QR codes over the weekend for you to get even more involved with the event and go online for videos and information.
It was mentioned that there were NO women speakers. It’s not like there aren’t any, as there were some in attendance. SR should have considered this and tried to balance the energy but we’ll never know what the reason were. Next time they will need to invite at least a couple as it was commented on Twitter that “this is the 21st Century!”
Also, My friend Harriett won an iPad for just being there! Approximately 10 were given away during the weekend so it was worth it for that alone. With 8000 tickets, about half of the people will have entered = 10/4000 or 1/400 chance of winning. Better than the odds of the lottery or staying at home doing nothing!
Tony Robbins was on first thing and over ran by an hour but the content was amazing and it was like a mini UPW (Unleash The Power Within). I had a sore throat by lunchtime due to just participating and shouting at him – if you’ve been to a Tony Seminar you’ll know what I mean.
The energy of the weekend was much more than your average seminar – and many of the speakers knew it, referring to Energy being the main thing that is essential being successful!
It was interesting to note that many of the speakers were not fans of The Government or Banks, hinting at the fact but not outright saying it. Make a difference to the world yourself and raise money through smart thinking!
Here are my quick one line reviews of the speakers I heard – I wasn’t in the room for all the presentations as I’d either heard them before, wasn’t interested in the topic or was having fun catching up with friends 🙂
Tony Robbins – A true master of modelling and Motivation (see notes) Robert G Allen – Writing books and information products (see notes) Greg Secker – Stock trading Blair Singer – What kind of Sales Dog are you? (see notes) Alan Sugar – Interview with Michael Burke (see notes) T Harv Eker – What is your Money Blueprint? (see notes) Andy Harrington – Presentation skills (see notes) Simon Coulson – Internet marketing and information products Mike Melio & Marty Sanders – Tony Robbins Business Guys Adam Ginsberg – Domain name trading Tom Hua – Internet marketing Kevin Green – Secret millionaire shares his tips on property investing Kerwin Rae – How JV’s work (see notes) John Lee – Lease options with the Wealth Dragons Joseph McClendon III – Your health and energy is important (see notes) Richard Branson – Interview (see notes)
The big message about money and achievement was about having the right energy and blueprint – not just the system to go out and earn it. The invisible (quantum soup) creates the visible results in your life, master that and everything else is easy.
Back to Sir Richard Branson. Well wow, what can I say?
He was interviewed by Michael Burke and shared the story and achievements of how he took his companies from strength to strength. Richard truly is a brilliant individual and as he speaks you can tell how humble he really is.
To be in the same room as him was Amazing. The opening we had with Tony Robbins was huge, the love and admiration for Richard Branson was just as Big if not BIGGER!
It’s not that he is more capable than you or I – and it’s not like he’s super human and doesn’t have challenges and fear. The difference is that he just keeps going because he knows his mission in life. This mission is not for other’s to intellectually understand and I believe it is outside the realms of thought, at the moment, for most people (Virgin Galactic to give average people trips into Space!?)
His aura filled the room easily as he spoke to us. He shared how you have to look after your team and work together, how he grew his company and had challenges with his Airline. The difference between Richard and many other business people is that Richard speaks from the heart and knows that this is where it all starts, not in the head as most intellectuals would want to believe. His company Virgin has been built on doing things better and providing the best possible ‘service’ to people, money is the by-product!
But the Amazing thing is that he is so REAL, genuine and you know that he cares. Then again I would value his attributes as they are in alignment with mine. The difference with Richard is that he just keeps having fun, growing and playing a bigger game.
When the crowd applauded him, you could see the emotion on his face – knowing in his soul that he is just doing what needs to be done.
As my friend Mindy Gibbins-Klein told me earlier that day – you don’t tell people you’re a thought leader but just go out and do it. This was so true when I saw Richard Branson and realised that he isn’t busy telling people how great he is – he simply lets his actions do the talking and prove to the World what can be achieved.
When asked to finish with a single piece of advice for everyone present, he told us his secret: “Screw it! Just get on and DO IT!”

Tony Robbins – Unleash The Power Within – (June 07)
WOO – HOO!! What an OUTSTANDING Weekend! It was so unbelievable and amazing that you MUST go to experience it for yourself.
I won’t even try to explain it but I’m going again in February 2008 if you want to come along.
Tony Robbins doesn’t try to change your life or motivate you, he just helps you to do it yourself if YOU want to!
Then he just shows you how and how to draw on the resources within yourself.
It’s not about changing yourself but BEING yourself!
Here are some of the things that happened at the weekend:
Thursday – Tim and I arrived at the Custom House Hotel, across from the Excel, at about midnight on Thursday and went to the bar where the beer was dodgy and we’d missed last orders for food. Wasn’t a great start but I still manged to embarass myself by asking a girl from Belgium if she spoke Belg-ish (yes I know, it was the beer and lack of food). So not a great start but it was funny! …LOL…
Friday – we turned up at the Excel about 9am and met Stuart, Juswant, Sylvia, Daniel and Viv from the property forum. Queued to get our books for the course, which kicked off around 1pm.
Tony Robbins came on stage and the Excel Arena was buzzing. His stories were great and a joy to learn from and we’d be jumping up and down and dancing and high fives and just having a blast. Learning has never been so much fun.
Some people were reserved but when we told to give each other massages and sit next to strangers, it is amazing how much they will share with each other. The build up was to get us to walk on fire at upto 2000 deg F for 12ft.
We changed our mindsets, got rid of the fear in our heads and prepared the body to put out a protective energy – and it was all FUN! We then marched to the car park (all 10,000 of us) and proceeded to walk across the fire and have a mini rave on the other side. Wow – the atmosphere was electric! It was about 10pm and time to head to our hotels, to the bar to get some pizza and beer. Late night again after 1am
Saturday – Another early start. I saw Dipak from the property forum wandering around and I hadn’t met Heather or Les yet. Sometimes it’s hard to find someone in a crowd but kept seeing a girl I thought I recognised.
Eventually, I went over to her and asked “Are you from Huddersfield? As you look very familiar that I know you”, “No – I’m from York”, whilst we were still both scratching our heads her friend said “She won the Apprentice last year” – “Oh right, Michelle” when it clicked. (Michelle Dewberry)
Then her overprotective friend dragged her away saying “She always gets that”. Wow – isn’t amazing how annoyed she must get with people asking her all the time if she’s from Huddersfield! ;o)
Natalie Imbruglia was also there and Jo Cameron from the Apprentice, who I think might have been stalking me as she was always going to the toilet at the same time as me! Can you imagine 10,000 trying to use the facilities at the same time!!
Anyway, back to our mate Tony Robbins. He explained how he dealt with people’s problems and how there is always a deeper reason for why people say there is something wrong. He then links massive amounts of pain to that thought and shows you the massive amounts of pleasure you can get if you overcome those silly little images in your head. As most people will do more to avoid pain than get pleasure.
We covered aspects of NLP which I’ll write about once I’ve been to see Christopher Howard in September.
I liked to sit around with and talk to new people (as that was one of my fears) and met some girls from Glasgow BNI, some guys from London, some ladies that were going to the Mastery University, actually lot’s of people from everywhere of all shapes and colours and ages. It was great being able to relate to them all.
It was surprising how open people were that spoke to him on stage and how he helped them overcome these blocks.
One lady had some serious issues about being abused as a child. Tony helped her overcome it and it was unbelievable!
He said “you are a new person now and not who you were then. You’re not to blame for what happened. And why think about it?
Would you go watch a bad movie 1000’s of times and over and over again or just forget about it!” So simple, yet so effective and true.
Mirroring and matching was on the agenda – we emulated the physiology of a couple of people and when we got it right, we could feel what the person felt and in some cases see what they were seeing in their mind! AMAZING!
Lots more dancing, hugging and high fives and about midnight we headed to the bar at The Yacht Hotel, where Stuart was staying and chatted to some ladies from Ireland. They were ‘facilitators’ (teachers) and we had a go at Quantum psychology and sending thoughts to each other (not a good experiment after a couple of drinks).
Also discussed the cosmic mind and infinite intelligence around us. Stuart did know what I wanted from the bar earlier and it wasn’t my regular drink so there is definitely something there. Bed for 2am I think.
Sunday – Cracking start at about 8.30am. It awas really nice starting the day with hugs and high fives from everyone.
We had already anchored ourselves to feel on a high when certain music was played, getting centered and breathing out, when we said YES, and punching the air with our right fist.
Today we would focus on getting rid of all the bad feeling we had (not just the thoughts and fears as previously) and replacing them with feeling of gratitude and love. The room was so emotionally charged it was unbelievable.
Then before the end everyone went nuts (again). The last 3 days were like a fantastic Rock and Roll Concert but… BETTER!
Left on a complete high. Some of the security girls were trying to avoid me as I ran out of the main hall – bad move, not just a high five but a hug and a twirl as well. How much fun was this.
The security guard at the Excel wouldn’t give me a high five but not everyone likes to play. 🙂
Went to the Novotel Hotel and got chatting to loads of people. Met some Italian guys who had flown over as volunteers for 4 days – and these guys were still jumping up and down till 3am. If you can’t beat them join them.
Monday – Sat behind a guy that I recognised, he reminded me it was from the mirroring/matching from the day before. I was stunned, I felt like I’d known him my whole life.
This day was mainly about Vital Life and how to be healthy, being taught by Joseph McClendon III, he looks about 30 something but is over 50! just to teach you about how you get conflicting information on health and it is best to stand back and think about it from a common sense point of view. For instance “have you ever seen a cow drink cow’s milk?”
As we left the Excel about 8pm (an hour after most people) – a girl selling water and looking bored got an unexpected high five and a twirl. The big guy on the coffee stand wasn’t interested in standing up for a hug till I threatened to chase him round the Excel. He complied… Who’s yer daddy!!!
The Excel staff didn’t know what hit them when we left… but in a nice way. I hope the Italians are there in February when we go back – as we WILL take it to another level.
Well I think I’ve told you more than enough already, don’t want to give everything away before YOU go. This write up has taken long enough and I have 4 days of work to catch up on.
